Program Cuts, Agency-by-Agency

February 2, 2010 By ei2admin

By Jessica Lambertson – govexec.com – February 2, 2010 – President Obama’s $3.8 trillion fiscal 2011 budget estimates saving more than $20 billion through the termination, reduction and savings generated by 126 federal programs. Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs are among the departments that will receive budget boosts under Obama’s plan; others, such as the Interior Department, will see cuts to several programs.

Based on the budget proposal, we’ve put together a list of the proposed discretionary and mandatory terminations and reductions, categorized by agency. This compilation does include programs and other areas where the administration has estimated savings for 2011 and beyond; we’ve listed only areas that are targeted specifically for elimination or reduction in 2011 or beyond, where appropriate.

For a more detailed look at potential savings and the rationale for including programs and other initiatives on this list, read the “Terminations, Reductions and Savings” volume of the fiscal 2011 budget. Unless otherwise indicated, the figures represent the decrease in funding from 2010 to 2011.
